Autumn has come to the Northern hemisphere, and that means it's time to start making meals that stick to the ribs and encourage warm conversation amongst friends. The Inn of the Last Home has just the meal to fortify your constitution when the Autumn leaves start to fall and you need that little bit of extra energy to flee your burned out home when the Dragon-hordes attack. Nothing adds the needed burst of stamina to your weary sword arm like Otik's famous spicy potatoes. Road worn travelers from around the realms of Krynn are unanimous in their affirmation of two truths concerning the village of Solace, and the Inn of the Last Home. First, that no finer, (and pleasing to the eye), service is to be had anywhere on the continent, except from the lovely Tika, and that Otik's cooking inspires long, story filled, nights by the Inn's cozy fire.
This meal is about as simple as it gets. With only 4 simple ingredients, it can easily be cooked up at the end of a long day of fighting Draconians, just be sure to wipe their blood off your dagger, it really ruins the potatoes. The following is the recipe as it appears in Tika's Cookbook from "Leaves from the Inn of the Last Home". A book published in 1987 by TSR.
Otik's Spiced Fried Potatoes
1 pound potatoes (any kind)
3 tablespoons butter
1/2 medium onion, finely chopped
1 to 2 dashes cayenne
Scrub potatoes, and remove any eyes. Chop into half-inch cubes with skins. Melt butter in frying pan (traditionally an iron skillet), and heat until sizzling. Add cayenne to butter; stir. Place potatoes in butter and fry until crisp; stir occasionally. Add onion and fry 1 more minute. Serve hot, salt to taste. Serves 2 to 4.
